Rihanna had Release Party for Charity

Rihanna donated a thousand sleeping bags to the New York Daily News' relief drive. The newspaper delivered the sleeping bags to victims all over the city, many of whom are still unable to return to their homes.
Rihanna had a fundraising release party at the Jay-z 40/40 club in New York City. To attend the free event fans needed to bring things to donate to the relief efforts. The organizers asked people to bring coats and blankets, diapers, wipes, and cleaning supplies.
I'm so proud of Rihanna for giving back. This is something we need to see alot more celebrities being involed with...OnPoint!

Barack Obama's 2012 Presidential Acceptance Speech

Even though it was a very tensed night while watching the votes come in, President Barack Obama was re-elected for a second term last night. It all came down to that swing state of Ohio but eventually President Obama claimed victory with 303 electoral votes, while Mitt Romney had just 206. The election was also swayed this time around by the Latino vote (the fastest growing minority group in America) with President Obama snagging 72 percent of their support nationwide.  Women were also concerned about healthcare and their reproductive rights which helped the President snag 53% of their vote.

Last night, supporters grooved to music like Al Green, Frankie Beverly & Maze, and even some Beyonce while waving flags in excitement before the president came out to Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed Delivered’.  He was accompanied by Michelle Obama and his daughters Sasha and Malia who he thanked during his victory speech:
I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the woman who agreed to marry me 20 years ago. Let me say this publicly. Michelle, I have never loved you more. I have never been prouder to watch the rest of America fall in love with you, too, as our nation’s first lady.
Sasha and Malia — before our very eyes, you’re growing up to become two strong, smart, beautiful young women, just like your mom. And I am so proud of you guys. But I will say that for now, one dog’s probably enough. [laughter]
Celebrities also jumped on social media to congratulate the president and show off their excitement. Check out a few reactions plus the President’s victory speech below:

When I heard the news I fell out of the couch with tears in my eyes. I was so emotional because I know how much people have fought for the rights that were being debated about. It just show that honesty and loyalty to the people means more than money. Of course we all know that the majority in the of House of Representative is Republican , but the goal now is to WORK TOGETHER. Their isn't any room for fighting, just time to do what is right for our country...OnPointCelebz! Four More Years! :-)

Free Buju Bonton Press Conference in Washington, DC

This Afternoon I attended a press conference on Capital Hill in Washington, DC to officially announce the filing of the petition for Writ of Certiorari, dedicated to the court case of, Grammy winning reggae artist Buju Bonton (Mark Anthony Myrie). Many activist, educators, friends, supporters attended the conference to learn some important information about the case and to ask question they may have about the case.

“Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people are convinced that Mark Anthony Myrie was unjustly targeted and convicted in the United States court in Florida,” explains Banton’s new attorney, Chokwe Lumumba. “We request that the highest court of the land review this injustice and overturn it.” He adds, “We are determined to fight for Myrie’s freedom until he is vindicated.”

Lumumba, in association will the Buju Banton Defense Support Committee and the Gargamel Music Family, is organizing the press conference. Guest speakers included national head of the NAACP, Ben Jealous; Civil Rights Activist, Dr. Carolyn Cooper; author and lecturer at the University of West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica; Brother Aula Sumbry, Radio Host and Chairman of the NAACP Prison Committee in Trenton, New Jersey; Grammy winning artist Stephan Marley, Gramps Morgan and many more.

The reggae artist was convicted last year for "Conspiracy to possess with an intent to distribute" and "using the wires to facilitate a drug trafficking offense". These federal offense together carry a 10 year penalty. The last conviction, "knowing and intentionally carrying a firearm to further a drug offense", was thrown out of his sentencing hearing.

Buju will be re-sentenced in a Tampa courthouse early this week.

The Free Buju Press Conference will be held at The Methodist Building (100 Maryland Ave. N.E.) — located across the street from the Supreme Court — at 1pm sharp. Fans in the Washington Metropolitan Area are welcome to come and show their support.
